Why is a licence required to become an aircraft maintenance engineer in the aviation industry?

Students aspiring to become aircraft maintenance engineers are required to join and train under an institute approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India to get the AME licence. As per DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) 66, a student needs to complete all the module examinations in order to earn the licence to become an AME. Only an AME license holder is eligible to work in the aviation industry as AME, to perform certain tasks.

Is an aeronautical engineer eligible to get the AME licence?

Candidates who even have a BSc, BE/B.Tech, ME/MTech or PhD in Aviation/ Aeronautical/Aerospace degree, to become an aircraft maintenance engineer and get an AME licence, it is required by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation to appear for the course and earn the licence as per CAR 66. Only a licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer is authorised to certify an aircraft fit to fly.

What is the difference between AME & Aeronautical Engineering?

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is a licence-based program offered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) through approved institutes while Aeronautical Engineering is a 4-year engineering course recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Aspiring students can join either course after completing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) as main subjects. The aircraft maintenance engineering program includes academic and practical knowledge on keeping an aircraft airworthy while aeronautical engineering deals with the design, manufacturing, aerodynamics and safety of air-capable machines. aircraft maintenance engineers are required to earn an AME licence as per CAR 66 and they are responsible for ensuring the airworthiness of every aircraft before take off. It is also important to note that engineers who did BTech, MTech or PhD in any engineering discipline are required to obtain an AME licence as per DGCA CAR 66 to officially become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.

How do students benefit from receiving the SSAT 2023 Scholarship?

The scholarship is provided in form of fee concession/ discount/ waiver in total tuition fee to selected students at any of the institutes of Sha-Shib Group for the courses available at its different campuses, across India.

What is the eligibility to appear for SSAT 2023?

Cleared/Appearing 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics. or Three Years Engineering diploma from a recognized board/university or Any equivalent/higher qualification in science with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognized board/University Candidates having Biology/Arts/Commerce as optional is eligible for Air Hostess/Cabin Crew/ Ground Staff courses only. Candidates with a diploma in Engineering/ Math can apply for the B.Tech/ AME/CPL only.

What is the pattern of the entrance examination?

The Mode of Examination will Be both Online and Offline and the question paper consists of 100 objective questions divided into 4 sections. Each question carries 1 credit and there will be no negative credit for wrong answers.

What is the difference between AME & Aeronautical Engineering?

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) is a licence-based course offered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) through approved institutes while Aeronautical Engineering is a 4-year engineering bachelor degree course recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The basic eligibility to join both courses is 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) as core subjects. The AME course imparts the aspirants with in-depth knowledge on the repair and maintenance of aircraft and its components whereas the aeronautical engineering course deals with the design, structure, aerodynamics and safety of an aircraft. In India, to seek employment as an AME, it is mandatory to undergo training and possess an AME licence as regulated by DGCA Civil Aviation Rule (CAR) 66. Engineers who did MTech and/or PhD in Aeronautical Engineering/other engineering are required to obtain an AME licence as per DGCA CAR 66 in order to earn the AME licence and seek employment as an aircraft maintenance engineer.
