B.Sc. (Botany - Chemistry - Zoology)

Under the science stream, there is an undergraduate degree program called Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. The program aims to provide in-depth and advanced knowledge in Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. After graduation, students can go on to pursue postgraduate degrees in pharmacology, zoology, forensic science, food and nutrition, veterinary medicine, and many more. Any B.Sc. program's major objective is to help students get a greater knowledge of natural laws by exploring the logic and justifications behind them using tried-and-true methods of observation, modelling, experimentation, and computations. A special combination of disciplines is offered in the Bachelor of Science (BSc) programme, fostering a learning environment that is extremely adaptable and giving students the chance to further their careers in their chosen fields. Atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, coordination chemistry, quantum mechanics, spectroscopy, and chemical analysis are among the ideas and concepts covered in the Chemistry curriculum, which emphasizes both theoretical and practical elements of the subject. The botany curriculum emphasises taxonomy, the theory of the plant kingdom, the theory of evolution, plant traits and behaviour, and how plants interact with their environment. It includes information on phycology, plant anatomy and biology of development, cell biology as well as biomolecules, mycology and plant pathology, angiosperm taxonomy, microbial biotechnology, and the use of computers and bioinformatics. The study of zoology emphasises hypotheses about the animal kingdom, animal categorization, animal behaviour, and how animals interact with their environment. It includes topics including biosystematics, animal physiology and ethology, methods and instruments in biology, physiology, genetics, as well as evolution, in addition to the anatomy and physiology of vertebrates and ecosystem biology.

Eligibility

A minimum of 50% on the entire exam for the 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from a recognised Board of School Education is required.

Course Syllabus

The three primary sections of the course are chemistry, botany, and zoology. The course's Chemistry section covers the fundamentals of all three branches of chemistry: inorganic, organic, as well as physical. There are equal amounts of theoretical and practical sessions. The course's Botany section covers topics including cell biology, various microorganisms, plant architecture, the biology of different kinds of seeds, plant embryological processes, etc. The course's zoology component covers the variety of species and lives of protozoa, helminths, arthropods, hemichordates, and chordates.

The BSc programme consists of three scientific courses. Its extensive academic offerings in zoology, chemistry, and botany include a wide range of in-depth topics. The fundamental course's studies in botany will examine the variety, ecology, anatomy, metabolism, as well as embryology of plants. Similarly learning about chemical formulas, organic and inorganic, and physical chemistry is required for chemistry. The last course topic is zoology, where we study animal variety, immune science, evolution, and morphology. We also learn about biochemistry, the biology of parasitic behaviour, the physiology of animals and ethology, and the anatomy as well as function of vertebrates.

Career Prospects

Candidates may work for academic institutions, pharmaceutical corporations, environmental institutions, museums, botanical nurseries, research labs, and other organisations. They can open their own tutoring businesses, pharmacies, and even private clinics.

Graduates of zoology can work in aquariums, zoological parks botanical gardens, research, animal clinics, and veterinary hospitals. Graduates in botany can work for food manufacturers, the Department of Agriculture as well as Water, chemical companies, public health organisations, and paper companies. Graduates of chemistry programmes can work in a variety of sectors, including textile, leather, jute, experimental lab, hospital, as well as chemical and fertiliser industries.
