Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) is a licence-based engineering domain that deals with the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of aircraft. A licenced aircraft maintenance engineer inspects, repairs and maintains aircraft. A licenced aircraft maintenance engineer is responsible to certify an aircraft fit to fly before taking off.

Aircraft maintenance engineering in India is getting much attention as the aviation industry in India is growing at a rapid pace. Domestic and international air traffic is growing and allied industries are experiencing massive growth that opens up millions of career opportunities for aircraft maintenance engineering in India. Any private or governmental organisations which use aircraft for different purposes are required to have aircraft maintenance engineers as per DGCA CAR 66, who have completed an aircraft engineering course from one of the aircraft maintenance engineering colleges in India to carry out the maintenance tasks of the aircraft.

For an aspirant to become an aircraft maintenance engineer, he should be really passionate and possess the necessary skills to better perform in the academics and practical training sessions and choose the best college for aircraft maintenance engineering. India is best known as the educational hub in the world and has the best aircraft maintenance engineering colleges in the world. Colleges under the Sha-Shib Group are equipped with great infrastructure to facilitate a better academic experience. The AME courses offered are approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as per Civil Aviation Rules (CAR) 66. The colleges provide academic as well as practical training sessions following the syllabus prescribed by the DGCA.

Streams available in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course at our various institutes

Cat. B1.1 - Mechanical (Aeroplane Turbine)

Aspirants who are looking forward to working with international airlines and aviation organisations in their mechanical departments can opt for this stream in aircraft maintenance engineering. This stream deals with the maintenance and troubleshooting of aircraft fitted with jet engines

Cat. B1.2 - Mechanical (Aeroplane with Piston Engine)

This stream deals with the study and maintenance of Piston Engines & Light Aeroplane Structures and is commonly known as Category B1.2 in Mechanical Stream.

Cat. B1.3 - Mechanical (Helicopter Turbine)

Engineers in the category are authorised to certify the maintenance and repair works of helicopters. This stream of AME is in high demand these days in India and around the world.

Cat. B2 - Avionics

The maintenance of different avionics systems on aircraft is done by licenced engineers in the B2 Avionics category. The avionics include electrical, instrument, and radio navigation systems.

Career Scope

There are excellent career opportunities for AME to brighten up their career in the aviation industry. Here are some of the facts which can strengthen the statement.

The UDAN scheme is lifting the AME career. UDAN Scheme's basic agenda is to “let common people fly” by cutting down airfare. A drastic increase in domestic passengers can be seen which results in rising in AME careers.

The growth rate of air passengers is approx 25% which leads to the requirement for new aircraft. Many airline companies ordered 100s of new aircraft which creates job opportunities for AME.

India became the best market to invest in as the aviation sector is growing very rapidly. Qatar Airways, WOW Airlines, etc. are entering the aviation market in India which increases the requirement of AME.

Boeing and Airbus are going to set up their MROs in distinct states of India which creates thousands of jobs for AME.

India is in the race to become the 3rd largest in the aviation sector which is a great achievement for the country. India comprises very hardworking and passionate people which can make the nation proud. The career opportunities for AME are extraordinary with the growth of aviation.
